Winter Solstice
The winter solstice occurs during the hemisphere's winter. In the Northern Hemisphere, this is on December 21st. In many temperate regions, the winter solstice is seen as midwinter, also known as the "extreme of winter", the "shortest day" and the "longest night".
For those who are already looking forward to summer, the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, is June 21st. ;-)

Thank you to Global Television Edmonton for holding the ‘Give me Shelter’ campaign in support of 6 women’s shelters, including our own A Safe Place Shelter for women and their children. The six women’s shelters will share the funds raised.

The second Sunday in December is the Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting.
At 7:00 p.m. in every time zone, candles are lit by TCF families in honour of all children who have died. As candles burn down in one time zone, they are lit in the next, creating a 24-hour wave of light that encircles the globe … that their light may always shine.

In November, I honour Angel Anniversaries, the passing of my Dad (Nov. 6th) and my Son Darrel (Nov. 21st)
Every year on November 8, Indigenous Veterans Day is recognized across Canada. Established in 1994, it serves not only as a time to commemorate the service and sacrifice of Indigenous Veterans.
Also, on November 11, Canadians pause in a moment of silence to honour and remember the men and women who have served, and continue to serve Canada during times of war, conflict and peace. We remember the more than 2,300,000 Canadians who have served throughout our nation’s history and the more than 118,000 who made the ultimate sacrifice.The poppy is the symbol of Remembrance Day. The Royal Canadian Legion sells replica poppies to provide assistance to Veterans.

Part 2 - The Day of the Dead - Día de (los) Muertos is a holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2.
This multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pay respects and remember friends and family members who have died.
Traditions connected with the holiday include honouring the deceased using calaveras and marigold flowers known as cempazúchitl, building home altars called ofrendas with the favourite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these items as gifts for their loved ones.
